Coal Dust Art and Writing

Art Commission Terms of Service

As of now, the best way to contact me about commissions would be through one of the social medias I have posted.

By commissioning me to draw artwork, you automatically agree to the following:

  • I, the artist, have the right to refuse a commission at my discretion and without further explanation

  • If you wish to commission me for commercial use, it would be wise to wait a little bit longer as I have yet to write it up.

  • I refuse to draw the following:
    • Nudity, fetish, suggestive, or provocative themes
    • Intense gore
    • Politics
    • Romance or anything adjacent thereto
    • Fan art

  • I will not draw artwork that deviates from what I normally do. If you would like clarification or to see more examples, feel free to ask.

  • Rights of use:
    • I reserve the right to use the artwork as part of my portfolio. This includes posting it on social media.
    • Client reserves the right to remain anonymous
    • The client is not allowed to use the artwork for commercial use.

  • Payment:
    • Payment will be done through PayPal or Venmo.
    • Half of the payment will be expected upfront. The completed artwork with the watermark removed will be given to the customer when remaining balance is paid in full.
    • You cannot pay the full price up front.
    • o Once the second half of payment is completed, there will be no more revisions or corrections.

  • Refund Policy:
    • No refunds unless I am unable to complete the commission for whatever reason. In that case, I will provide a full refund.
    • There is no fee if the client wants to back out of the commission. By doing so, however, the commission will remain unfinished and discarded. There is no going back once this trigger is pulled and no refund will be given.

  • For each step of the process, I will make sure that the client is satisfied enough to move to the next step. Once approved, we will move on. We will not go back to the previous steps once finished. The process:
    • First half of payment
    • Rough thumbnail sketches (unless the client provides a specific pose)
    • Sketch
    • Lineart
    • Shading (if client chooses)
    • Coloring (if client chooses)
    • Hatching (if client chooses)
    • Second half of payment

  • The client is responsible to provide teh following:
    • References:
      • References, while optional, are encouraged to make it easier to meet your vision.
      • It does not need to be references of your own character, anything can help.
      • If a reference is not provided, I encourage you to be a bit more descriptive of what you would like.

    • Description:
      • The description of what you want should be simple and easy to follow.
      • A bullet point list is highly encouraged to make sure communication is kept simple and organized.

  • Fees:
    • Client will be notified of all fees that may come up.
    • Additional fees will cover additional details or revisions, both of which will be clarified in detail later in the terms of service.
    • Fees will be discussed with you before they are implemented.
    • Additional fees must be paid alongside the second half of payment.

  • Details and Revisions:
    • Details and Additions:
      • If you want a more detailed commission, be upfront about it. I reserve the right to decline any requests for more details, especially if we are later into the commission. It is in your best interest to express what details you want early in the commission.
      • Excessive details will result in a fee depending on complexity. You will be notified about the fees ahead of time if it comes to that.
    • Addition of smaller details will result in no fee, but if you request several small details, that counts as excessive details and I reserve the right to apply any fees I see fit.
    • Revisions:
      • The best place for revisions will be thumbnails and sketching as it is not only simpler on my end and little to no fees on the client’s end. That said, if the client requests too many changes, fees will be applied.
        • Three major revisions are permitted maximum during the sketching phase before fees get applied.
      • Revisions are not doable once the artwork is no longer in the sketch phase. Once in the line art phase, I will not be going back to fix the sketch. Same goes for the coloring, hatching, etc.
      • If the revision is minor (ex. tail fur needs to be fluffier, eyes bigger, etc.), the addition will be free. A bunch of minor revisions however will eventually lead to fees.

    • If you have any questions regarding my skill as an artist, what I am willing to do, clarification of these terms of service, etc., feel free to ask. I am not responsible for lack of communication on the client’s end.
