Coal Dust Art and Writing
About Me
When I'm online, I go with the alias of Coal Dust. It's a bit of a drawn out and loosely connected pun to my first name, but if I told you about it, it would defeat the purpose of actually having an alias. With that aside, let me tell you a little bit about me.
Growing up, I enjoyed video games and movies quite a bit. Especially the ones with plenty of action in them. Back then, I wanted to direct a movie or create a video game. At the time, I thought it would be nearly impossible to do those sorts of things, so I decided to give writing a shot. I started off with Wattpad (a site that I do not recommend using) with pokemon fan fiction when I was in high school. At one point, I realized that if I scrubbed away the pokemon bits, the plot wouldn't change so I took that out and developed from there. I also got more interested in books from there. Both novels and comic books.
While I don't have anything out and published yet, I plan on fixing that. Currently, I am working on a rough draft on a novel. I will give more updates on that as the novel develops.
My interest in art came about due to when I was writing pokemon fan fiction oddly enough. I wanted to do my own cover at some point, so I joined an art class in high school. Unlike most art classes in high schools, this one actually taught some art fundamentals that helped a lot. I was a terrible artist then, but I am a whole lot better in comparison. Today I am still learning. Now, what do I draw? Well, I draw mechs and anthropomorphic characters. I do like to draw humans and other things as well, of course.
I put a pin in those interests when I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served in Salt Lake City, UT. While I didn't proselytize, I did help a lot regarding geneology at the Family History Library and church history at the Church History Library.
When I got home from the mission, Covid hit shortly after. Though, I'm not gonna get into that whole mess. I've been on and off about my creative endeavors due to some personal matters at the time. Then I began to take it a bit more seriously at around mid-2023. Began drawing more consistently and a podcast known as the Writer Dojo helped demystify a lot when it came to creating stories. Things are definitely better now than they were then.
That's all for the About Me section. I do hope that if you decide to check out my works, that you will enjoy them. If not, that's totally fine. I thank you for your inital interest regardless.
